10 must see’s in the Seychelles
The Seychelles are famous for secluded white sand beaches, topaz seas and lush green rainforests and it didn’t disappoint. Read on for the top 10 must see’s in the Seychelles.
1. Anse Solai
This is where you can take the classic pictures of talcum-powder beaches and crystal-clear topaz waters. It’s a truly beautiful beach lined with palm trees and granite rocks. We had a great time swimming but it’s known for its waves so be extra careful. Feel good factor 9/10.
2. Eden Island
The holiday resort for the UAE’s super rich and their super yachts. There’s not a lot here, a hotel, a marina, some bars, restaurants but it’s great to spend an afternoon looking longingly at the yachts and waterside villas complete with their private beaches. Feel good factor 8/10.
3. Beau Vallon
This is the busiest resort of Mahe and all the major hotel chains have something here. Most hotels have access to the smaller beaches that the Seychelles is famous for, Beau Vallon itself has a large wide beach and market. There are a couple of bars along the front where we watched the sunset and drank cocktails. Lots of people head this way to get to famous Anse Major. We did the walk to get there but really felt there are many more picture perfect beaches on Mahe that don’t require the long walk. Feel good factor 7/10.
4. Botanical Gardens
If you want to get up close and personal with a Aldabra tortoise but don’t want to go on a long hike this is the place to do it. You can also see the Coco de Mer tree which produces the biggest nut in the world. They really are huge. It’s worth having a look as you don’t get to see these growing in many places. Feel good factor 7/10.
5. A snorkelling trip to Ste Anne Marine National Park.
We went on an organised day trip with a catamaran and stopped at Moyenne Island before cruising the nearby coast afterwards. It’s a great way to visit the six small islands within the park. The snorkelling was by no means the best that we’ve ever done but it’s a good way to see the local marine life and you might even spot a hawksbill turtle or a dolphin! Feel good factor 9/10.
6. Mission Lodge
It’s worth tackling the hair raising drive to get to Mission Lodge. It’s best viewed at sunset where you can have a great vantage point of the South of Mahe. It can get cloudy and wet so go whenever it looks like a clear day up in the Morne Seychellois National Park. Feel good factor 7/10.
7. Silhouette Island
It can be difficult to get to but it’s well worth the visit. The coral reefs are fantastic with plenty of opportunity for snorkelling and diving. It’s one of the most mountainous islands with 5 peaks and offers some great walks through the lush rainforests including Grande Barbe where you can see the turtles nesting. Feel good factor 10/10.
8. Morne Seychellois National Park
Even if you just want a short hike a walk through the rainforest of the national park is a must. You will get very hot and sweaty- there’s no escaping it in the humid environment. If you can cope you’l be rewarded with a 9/10 feel good factor and massive sense of achievement. Let’s not forget the amazing views too.
9. Carana Beach
This tiny cove is another picture perfect beach. It’s still fairly undiscovered by tourists and the small patch of sand doesn’t allow for many. It’s framed by big granite boulders and palm trees and worthy of the classic Seychelles photo.
10. La Digue
If you don’t make it to Silhouette then take a day trip to La Digue. Here you can enjoy the relaxing island vibe surrounded by award winning beaches and a few locals. It’s an extremely laid back place with some of the best beaches in the Seychelles that are all within cycling distance of the harbour.
